WECARRY makes reuse easy: its RFID-enabled deposit system for bakeries and supermarkets comes with full service, from bag delivery and collection to cleaning.
WECARRY was founded in 2023 by Nelly Mathias and Mischa Wendel in Starnberg, Bavaria. The idea: help bakeries and supermarkets replace single-use packaging for baked goods with a deposit-based reusable bag system.
The RFID-enabled deposit system works as packaging-as-a-service: WECARRY provides the reusable bags and manages their collection, cleaning and return to circulation. Customers buy baked goods in a reusable bag and return it through the deposit system. The bags are made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, and each bread bag can replace at least 100 single-use bags.
Since September 2026, WECARRY deposit bags made from PET are also available in supermarkets. Customers return them at a deposit-return machine. The service fits different retail operations: bags can be delivered to and collected from individual branches or from a central logistics hub. More than 100 bakery branches and supermarkets in Germany use the solution.
In 2023 the start-up won the first iba.START UP AWARD.

Our partner WECARRY brings reusable deposit bags to EDEKA Frischecenter Wagner in Coburg. Customers pay a deposit of one euro and return the bags at a deposit-return machine.
