On Munich's Viktualienmarkt, a unified reuse system takes back cups and bowls at return machines around the clock. CircleCube supplies the machines.

ReMuc in Munich: public reuse returns at the Viktualienmarkt

The Märkte München have started the pilot project "ReMuc, Ois im Kreis" on the Viktualienmarkt. Food and drinks to go are served in RECUP cups and bowls at the participating stalls.

How it works

The deposit is one euro for a cup and five euros for a bowl. Guests return the containers around the clock at nine machines at five locations on the market, regardless of the stall where they bought them. The deposit is first paid out in coins until the machines are converted to a cashless version.

Who does what

  • RECUP provides the cups and bowls.
  • CircleCube supplies the return machines.
  • Relevo operates the machines and provides the ordering platform for stallholders.
  • Cup Company Service takes care of logistics and professional washing.

A model for other places

The Märkte München have planned the pilot for five years. It is meant as a model for other markets, public places and transport hubs.
